Container Terminal
Overview
Rinko plays an important part in the logistics that connect Niigata and the world
Niigata East Port is an international trading port that boasts the largest handling volume on the Sea of Japan side of mainland Japan. With 3 quays on a 28-hectare site, the value of containers handled from abroad in 2018 was ranked 12th in Japan and 1st among the ports on the Sea of Japan side of mainland Japan. The increase in handling volume has exceeded the national average.
Currently, there are eight regular international routes taken to China and South Korea each week. Rinko handles five of the eight shipping companies. It is fully equipped with facilities that are rare for a local port, a vast yard, and snow melting and removal equipment for during the winter. The short offshore waiting time throughout the year is a characteristic of Niigata East Port, which indicates its high potential.

About gantry cranes
At Niigata East Port, two super gantry cranes and one normal gantry crane are permanently installed for loading and unloading containers for container cargo ships. The latest gantry crane, which was updated in 2019, can handle up to a 31m outreach and 10 rows x 6 stacks on deck. At Rinko, container cargo handling specialists carry out their daily work with a secure system.
Below you can see a video where you can enjoy the view from above on the gantry crane.
About the straddle carriers
A straddle carrier is a cargo handling machine that carries containers unloaded from a ship. Rubber tires allow it to run freely on trackless roads, giving it excellent mobility. Rinko’s specialists support container transportation work at Niigata East Port, which has a vast yard.
